Biblioteca Joanina (Universidade de Coimbra), Portugal.
When I visited Portugal, I went to this library in Coimbra, at the local university. Bats live in it, between shelves and in nooks. At night, they come out to eat insects and mosquitos that might damage the books (all the tables and stuff are covered in tarps by people that work there so the bats don’t, ahem, dirty things while they hang out there). I was reading more about it now, too, and apparently, this particular species leaves its habitat when it feels its near death. Basically, they’re the best book keepers.
Anyway. I just remembered this story, for some reason. Wanted to put it here.
